Speaker:
External Review Committee (ERC)

On behalf of the Department of Feminist Studies, I am writing to ask you to attend an important meeting on Thursday, February 20th with an External Review Committee (ERC) of two visiting scholars who are conducting an evaluation of our department. The committee would like to learn about your experiences as undergraduate students in our department. They are interested in your views of the department’s strengths and weaknesses, and would like your suggestions for how our department can improve. Among likely topics of interest to the committee are program requirements, advising and mentoring, department climate, and department communication.

Please note specific meeting date, time and location:

Thursday, February 20th

***4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p m. - ERC meet with Feminist Studies Undergraduate Majors and Minors

in South Hall 3635 (Dept. of Black Studies Conference Room)

This is an opportunity that occurs only every eight years, and your input can make a real difference to us. The committee will also meet with faculty, staff, and administrators, and will submit a report with recommendations to the UCSB administration. No department faculty or staff will attend the graduate student meeting with the committee, and the committee will not identify students when they report their findings. Committee members are Professor Barbara Ransby (African American Studies and Gender & Women’s Studies, and Director of the Social Justice Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago), and Professor Mary Hawkesworth (Women’s & Gender Studies and Political Science, Rutgers, and Editor in Chief of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society).

I urge you to attend this meeting. The review will help us continue our work to improve the department with the goal of making it an exceptional place for undergraduate study in Feminist Studies.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you sincerely,
Eileen Boris
