Linguistics 80: Endangered Languages has just been added for spring quarter. It has no prerequisites and fulfills Area E: Culture & Thought and Subject Area: World Cultures requirements.
This course will explore the world's linguistic diversity and how it contributes to the overall sum of human knowledge, focusing on the cultural, political, and social factors that play a role in language endangerment, the implications of language death for speakers of minority languages and for humanity in general, and the strategies for preserving and revitalizing minority languages in a time of increasing cultural and linguistic homogenization.
